Abstract
Block encoding is considered to increase the minimum distance of CPM s ignals. Codes are constructed to prevent merging events with low Eucli dean distances. Numerical results presented with full response, partia l response and trellis coded CPM signals indicate that block coding ca n significantly increase the minimum distance of the signals. Nonlinea r block codes are also considered.
