Abstract
Twenty-five patients with pityriasis rubra pilaris diagnosed between 1 978 and 1992 were evaluated retrospectively. There were no sex differe nces. A bimodal age distribution was found (1st and 4th decades). Dist inctive features such as follicular keratosis and islands of apparentl y unaffected skin were found in 100% and 72% of all cases respectively and palmoplantar keratoderma in 52%. Low serum levels of zinc were de tected in four patients. Retinoids (especially etretinate) were the ma in therapeutic agents used.
