Tm. Chen et al., DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A DESK-TOP COMPUTER-SUPPORTED COOPERATIVE WORK SYSTEM, IEEE transactions on consumer electronics, 40(4), 1994, pp. 827-835
In this paper, we describe the implementation of a desktop CSCW (Compu
ter Supported Cooperative Work) system using commercially available co
nsumer electronic devices and facilities. The system is developed on w
orkstations under UNIX and OPEN LOOK environments connected by FDDI (F
iber Distributed Data Interface) networks. It provides multiparty conf
erence with shared white board. shared test editor, calendar, and voti
ng capability. Each conference with these features can support a group
ware environment. The design and consideration of the framework of the
system is presented. During the implementation, some performance issu
es, such as error control, medium synchronization and throughput impro
vement will also be discussed.
