Abstract
The performance of resonantly enhanced LiNbO3 traveling wave optical m odulators is investigated. High-frequency performance of broad band ve locity matched LiNbO3 modulators with low half-wave voltages is shown to be relatively independent of termination. A resonant enhancement te chnique involving external line stretching of the length of the nonact ive section of the modulator is proposed and demonstrated at low-frequ encies. An accurate model is developed to facilitate design of resonan tly enhanced optical modulators.
