Abstract
A mathematical model to study the oil film thickness between the cylin der wall and the piston ring of a reciprocating engine operating in th e hydrodynamic or partial lubrication regime has been developed. An an alytical model of a honed cylinder was used to calculate the required surface topography parameters. The model allows the effects of engine operating conditions and surface topography an lubrication to be studi ed in detail.
