Abstract
The physics of impact polarization is briefly reviewed in this paper. Methods for derivating the impact spectropolarimetric parameters relev ant for the formation of H alpha linear polarization are summarized. S pectropolarimetric techniques can provide information on the velocity distribution function of energetic particles. Since the most advanced application of this technique to astrophysics is in solar hare physics , recent results achieved by its application to particles accelerated in solar flares are presented.
