Abstract
The VUV emission spectra from the solar atmosphere and stellar atmosph eres have been intensively studied during the past 25 years with sever al major space programs. In this review we discuss the spectroscopic d iagnostic techniques used to study astrophysical plasmas, the atomic p rocesses involved, the recent observations and the plans for future sp ace missions.
