Abstract
A meta-analysis of studies that assessed ethnic minorities' perception s of and preferences for ethnically similar counselors and European Am erican counselors showed that ethnic minorities tended to prefer ethni cally similar counselors over European American counselors. However, t he perceptions of and preferences for counselors were influenced by th e cultural affiliation of the participants and the research methods us ed. More precise methods for determining the degree to which ethnic mi norities' preferences for ethnically similar counselors is a function of inferences concerning attitudes, values, and skill needs to be deve loped.
