Abstract
OVERVIEW: A benchmarking study of R&D decision-making practices by the IRI Quality Directors' Network reveals traits and processes that are common to organizations recognized for excellence in making R&D decisi ons. It also offers a seven-step agenda for implementing these practic es in your own organization, with the ultimate objective of improving the quality of R&D decisions. The ''best'' decision-making companies: Establish an explicit process for aligning R&D with corporate strategy ; employ metrics that measure this alignment and maintain a fertile or ganizational setting that supports quality decisions and the implement ation of change efforts.
