Vv. Singh et al., EVALUATION OF SELECTED GERMPLASM OF TETRAPLOID CULTIVATED COTTONS (GOSSYPIUM SPECIES) FOR AMINO-ACID PROFILE, Indian Journal of Agricultural Sciences, 65(1), 1995, pp. 24-26
An experiment was conducted during rainy season (kharif) 1992-93 to ev
aluate 37 germplasm accessions of upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.
) and egyptian cotton (G. babadense L.) for 17 amino acids to characte
rize the seed proteins of cotton. Higher levels of glutamic acid (4.09
), leucine (2.60) and phenylalanine (2.54) were observed in G. barbade
nse, and of aspartic acid (3.28). glutamic acid (6.09). phenylalanine
(2.68) and arginine (2.55) in G. hirsutum. The range of variability fo
r the 17 amino acids in the 2 species was also wide for total (16.2-73
.8) as well as individual amino acids (0.02-8.70). In G. hirsutum the
superior genotypes for total amino acids were 'Acala 11' x 'Tamcot SP
21', 'T x Maroon 2-78', 'EL 500' and 'G 9030-8-5'; and in G. barbadens
e 'Sea Island 339', 'No. 6002' and 'Giza 12'.
