Modelling large three-dimensional metal forming deformations with the
finite-element program PLAST3 is presented. The program utilises the p
enalty constrained method, based on the rigid-plastic flow formulation
. The structure and main capabilities of this program are described. T
he post-processing unit PLAPOST3 utilized for the analysis of the simu
lation results in a graphical form is presented also, this unit being
written in LISP language inside a commercial CAD package. A sample sol
ution supported by experimental work carried out with an aluminium all
oy at room temperature is included. Theoretical and experimental resul
ts are analysed, good agreement between them being found.
