Polymerization of 2-methyl-2-oxazoline was carried out using a trifunc
tional initiator, 2-perbromomethyl-2-oxazoline. The degree of polymeri
zation (DP) of the resulting polymer was very close to the feed mole r
atio of the monomer to initiator. The number-average molecular weight
($) over bar M(n) increased linearly with conversion, indicating the l
iving nature of the propagating chain end. H-1 NMR and end-group analy
ses results are consistent with the proposal that the polymer possesse
s a star-shaped structure.
