Five significant additions of arctic and subarctic species have been m
ade to the native vascular flora of the island of Newfoundland as a re
sult of botanical explorations on the Great Northern Peninsula: Minuar
tia biflora (Wats.) Schinzl. and Thell., Primula stricta Hornem., Sagi
na caespitosa (J. Vahl) Lange, Sagina saginoides (L.) Karst. and Salix
argyracarpa Anderss. Important range extensions on the island are als
o reported for Cerastium terrae-nova Fern. and Wieg., Danthonia interm
edia Vasey and Salix arctica Pallas.
