Abstract
A series on unsaturated sulfonylamidines and their copolymers with acr ylamide were synthesized. The kinetics of copolymerization of acrylami de with an ammonium salt of N-methacrylamidosulfonyltrichloroacetamidi ne was studied in aqueous solution at 50-degrees-C. For this pair of m onomers, reactivity ratios were determined. Chain transfer to sulfonyl amidine group was identified as one of the causes reducing the molecul ar mass of the copolymers. Water-soluble copolymers of acrylamide and unsaturated sulfonylamidines were found to display antifungal activity towards pathogenic fungi and bacteria afflicting plants.
