Abstract
The author reviews foreign studies of the phenomenon of ''emotional bu rn out''. Teachers' inclination to this syndrome is considered to be o ne of the important indicators of professional unfitness. The ability to withstand maladaptation is a necessary component of pedagogical abi lity. The author finds scientific continuity in these findings with th e research of Russian scientists A. S. Shafranova and M. M. Rubinstein .
