Abstract
The paper describes the method developed to estimate the state of the vegetation (amount of phytomass) and state of soils (amount of humus) using multichannel spectral images. The method uses the function of se nsitivity of the combinations of spectral channels of scanning radiome ters correspondent to such parameters as ''brightness of soil'' and '' vegetation greenness'' to the spectral composition of direct solar rad iation, to the diffuse scattered radiation, to the spectral reflectanc e of soils and vegetation, and to the parameters of measuring instrume nts. The paper also discusses the facilities of implementation of the models developed to calculate the retrieval accuracy.
