Abstract
In this paper, a method for on-line estimation of the oxygen transfer rate (K(L)a) and the respiration rate is successfully evaluated on rea l data from the municipal sewage plant Kungsangen in Uppsala, Sweden. Possible applications for the estimator include process diagnosis and model based control. The estimator is based on a Kalman filter approac h where the oxygen transfer rate is modelled with a static, constraine d, piecewise linear model and the respiration rate is modelled as a ra ndom walk. The paper also presents experience with using an autotuning controller for the control of the dissolved oxygen concentration.
