Mj. Mahoney, COGNITIVE-PSYCHOLOGY AND CONTEMPORARY PSYCHOTHERAPY - THE SELF AS AN ORGANIZING THEME, Journal of psychotherapy integration, 4(4), 1994, pp. 417-424
The life of the self has become a central emphasis in applied cognitiv
e psychology as well as in contemporary psychotherapy. Essential dimen
sions of the rediscovery of the organizational powers of identity are
discussed in this issue in terms of self-representation (Strauman), se
lf-doubt (Harlow and Cantor), and self-organization (Stein and Markus)
. My remarks are organized around the valuable and timely contribution
s of these articles, and I conclude by suggesting that we are witnessi
ng and participating in a new generation of dialogues about identity p
rocesses in perception and personal knowing as well as in personal cop
ing styles and psychological development.
