Ma. Gonzalezblock et al., COMMUNITY REFERRAL SYSTEM FOR THE CONTINU OUS UNIVERSAL IMMUNIZATION PROGRAM, Salud publica de Mexico, 36(5), 1994, pp. 503-512
This article describes a community referral system for the permanent i
mmunization program, tested in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, by th
e Regional Nucleus for Health Systems Development (NUREDESS-Norte). Th
e model was designed to facilitate the participation of the intermedia
te organizations that make up the community in urban settings. Through
appropriate technology, health counselors identify with precision, ea
se and rapidity the specific immunization needs of pre-school age chil
dren. The counselors also help diminish the barriers in the way to ser
vice access, and follow-up the children at highest risk.
