In order to define the enthalpies of mixing of the oxide glass with wa
ter on the reaction: (1 - X)(Gl) + X(H2O) Gl(Aq) + DELTAH and clarify
whether a character of joining of H2O in a molecular or hydroxyle form
s effects upon the DELTAH value the thermochemical studies of rhyolite
glasses using the calorimetry method of dissolution in agressive medi
a were carried out. As a result of the study the entalpies of hydratio
n of rhyolite glasses (obsidian, perlite, pechstein) were defined. The
relative contribution of molecular and hydroxile water in the enthalp
y of mixing value was estimated.
