Abstract
Currently, vacancy rates and nursing turnover are at low levels, indic ating that nurses are staying in their jobs for longer periods of time . The reasons for decreased job mobility for nurses are varied, but th is development has ramifications for nurse administrators and managers . The new challenge will be to enhance tile motivation of the nurse wh o will stay in a job for a longer term. This report of a study to furt her explore different types of organizational commitment with a nursin g population gives new insight into why nurses stay in their jobs and the implications this has for the organization.
