Abstract
Vickers microhardness of Zr-, Sc- and Al-doped rutile crystals were me asured from room temperature to 900 degrees C. In the high temperature range where the crystal quality is influenced, the doped crystals had a hardness of more than 10% higher than that of the undoped crystal. The crystal quality was found to be improved by solid solution hardeni ng.
