Abstract
The retention at room temperature of the gamma-U and beta-U structures containing 0.43 and 1.0 at.% W respectively is achieved by rapid cool ing from high temperature. The metastable beta-U structure subsequentl y undergoes an isothermal shear-like transformation into a strained va riant of the alpha-U structure.
