Abstract
Cichlid fishes from aquarium populations often are infected with gut d welling flagellates. In general, these parasites have to be regarded a s facultative pathogens. Cryptobia iubilans, a flagellate from the sto mach and anterior regions of the intestinal tract of discus fishes and of cichlids originating from East Africa, can provoke severe histopat hological changes. In heavily infected fish cell infiltrations and gra nuloma formation were seen in subepithelial intestinal tissues. Diagno stic methods and therapy devices are described.
