Some enzymes of the E. foetida musculo-cutaneous sac were studied by e
lectrophoresis in polyacrylamide gel in samples from six remote region
s of the range. Polymorphism was found in the electrophoretic spectra
of peroxidase, leucine aminopeptidase, phosphoglucomutase and octanol
dehydrogenase, which can be considered as genetically determined co-do
minant systems. All samples can be divided in two groups differing gua
litatively in the composition of alleles; north-western and south-east
ern groups. The samples within the groups are markedly heterogenous by
the frequency of alleles of the studied loci, which refers every samp
le to an individual genetically isolated population.
