Abstract
Final beam transport and focusing are key issues of the study group fo r a heavy ion ignition facility. Fundamental investigations on a techn ically and financially feasible beam guiding and focusing system have been started. By applying high current pulsed, iron-free quadrupole ma gnets it seems to be possible to overcome crucial problems in the fina l focusing.
