Abstract
Giant oesophageal polyp (GOP) is a very rare intraluminal tumour. It i s usually a benign, fibrovascular polyp arising from the proximal thir d of the oesophagus. We describe a patient with such a polyp but with a histological diagnosis of hamartoma. Regurgitation of the polyp into the mouth, which can lead to asphyxia, is a feared complication. A ba rium swallow and oesophagoscopy are the common diagnostic procedures. The site of the polyp and its volume often define the method of resect ion.
