PSYCHIATRIC MEDICATIONS FOR DEPLOYMENT

Standard medical sick-call chests used in the military contain either outdated or no psychiatric medications. Yet certain psychiatric medica tions are either useful or essential for the field and deployment. Thi s article discusses suitable medications for both psychiatric emergenc ies and for chronic treatment of depression or anxiety. Psychiatric me dications to avoid in deployment are also listed. Some dosing guidelin es are provided. The article ends with a proposed ''psychiatric sick-c all chest'' to be prepared in advance of deployment.
