Fluorescence anisotropy decays for perylene in squalane and methylcycl
ohexane (MCH) show marked departures from the behavior predicted by hy
drodynamic theory. Two exponentials are observed; both their extent an
d their rate show different dependences on temperature. In contrast, 1
,6-diphenylhexatriene in MCH shows a single-exponential decay rate pro
portional to eta/T.
