Abstract
Results of the Dirac-Slater discrete variational calculations are pres ented for the group 6 oxide tetrachlorides MOCl(4) (M = Mo, W, and ele ment 106 Sg). Estimates of the bond strength have shown that the stabi lity of SgOCl(4) toward thermal decomposition with respect to a loss o f a chlorine atom is of the order of the stability of MoOCl4 losing ch lorine at 25 degrees C. The estimated formation enthalpy of SgOCl(4) o f -114 +/- 6 kcal/mol is less negative than those of the lighter homol ogs.
