The crystal structure of the title phosphonium salt consists of a tetr
ahedral (C6H5P+ C(C4H8)-(COOCH2CH3) cation and a Br- anion. The triphe
nylphosphonium group has P-C(phenyl) distances which are equal within
experimental error [mean 1.802(9)Angstrom] and is attached directly to
an endocyclic tertiary C atom with a larger P-C distance of 1.857(8)A
ngstrom. The tetrahedral C-P-C angles range from 104.9(4) to 114.4(4)d
egrees. The carbonyl O atom of the ethoxycarbonyl group is located on
the opposite side of the positively charged P atom.
