Abstract
Solid solutions of C in the f.c.c. Ni-Fe matrix exhibit an anomaly whi ch manifests itself in a peak in the variation of the activation energ y for diffusion and the partial enthalpy of the dissolved C-atoms with the composition of the Ni-Fe matrix. This peak, which occurs at about 0.25-0.3 at. % Fe, has been shown to be primarily related to volume c hanges in the Ni-Fe matrix rather than to effects related to the elect ronic states of Fe atoms.
