Abstract
We discuss the possibility to observe the quantum Zeno effect in unita ry models of quantum measurements, when the measuring apparatus is sup posed to have a few degrees of freedom although containing a large amo unt of energy. For the example of the Zeno effect in optical three-lev el systems we compare the unitary mechanism for radiation trapping wit h the one based on dissipative dynamics.
