Abstract
In this paper, various computational methods for shape design in aerod ynamics are reviewed. A classification system based on the mathematica l structure of the methods is introduced. The fundamental ideas of dif ferent formulations are discussed, and the algorithms are described. T he advantages and well-known disadvantages of different methods are al so briefly discussed.
