Abstract
Numerical simulations provide a suitable tool to investigate and suppo rt the upscaling of melt growth especially of high T-c superconductors . On the macroscopic scale calculations of thermal fields in the YBCO bulk: during melt growth were performed. Mesoscopic simulations of the evolution of the microstructure have been made using the phase field method. These results are discussed in relation to experimental result s obtained from the real YBCO system. Implications for a possible enha ncement of production rates for YBCO bulk material and for tapes are o utlined.
