Nr. Minchin et al., SUBMM POLARIMETRIC OBSERVATIONS OF NGC-1333 IRAS-4A AND IRAS-4B - TRACING THE CIRCUMSTELLAR MAGNETIC-FIELD, Astronomy and astrophysics, 293(2), 1995, pp. 61-64
We have measured the 800 mu m polarization at the flux peak for both N
GC1333 IRAS4A and 4B. The polarization position angle is similar for b
oth sources (132 degrees +/- 3 degrees for 4A and 100 degrees +/- 10 d
egrees for 4B) and are aligned with the plane of the 800 mu m extended
emission plateau that contains the two sources and orthogonal tp the
CO outflow axis for 4A (position angle similar to 42 degrees). The obs
erved polarization position angles imply the dust grains are preferent
ially aligned along the plane of the extended dust ridge, implying the
magnetic field is orthogonal to the dust disk and aligned with the di
rection of the large scale molecular outflows. Therefore, within the r
esolution of these observations (14 arcsec FWHM) the circumstellar mag
netic fields around IRAS 4A and 4B appear poloidal.
