Cm. Kane, DIFFERENCES IN THE MANIFEST DREAM CONTENT OF ANGLO-AMERICAN, MEXICAN-AMERICAN, AND AFRICAN-AMERICAN COLLEGE-WOMEN, Journal of multicultural counseling and development, 22(4), 1994, pp. 203-209
This study compares the manifest dream content of African-American col
lege women with that of their Anglo-American and Mexican-American peer
s. The dream elements examined are characters, emotions, environmental
press, achievement outcomes, and social interactions that are aggress
ive, friendly, or sexual. The results show a statistically significant
l difference on only one measure: environmental press. That is, the dr
eams of African Americans reveal a significantly stronger perception o
f themselves as victims of their fate rather than directors of it.
