Abstract
This analysis of the 1986 Liberia Demographic and Health Survey data f
inds remarkably high fertility levels among women who have never marri
ed or lived with a man, reflecting widespread pre-marital sex and a la
ck of use of contraception. It is found that single Liberian women are
more likely to foster out children than married Liberian women of the
same age.
