The reaction of trimesitylindium, Mes(3)In, (Mes = 2,4,6-trimethylphen
yl) with the ditellurides, (n-Pr)(2)Te-2 and Ph(2)Te(2), yields the re
lated organotellurolates, [Mes(2)In(mu-Te-n-Pr)](2) (1) and [Mes(2)In(
(mu-TePh)](2), (2). 1 and 2 have been characterized by H-1, C-13, and
Te-125 NMR spectroscopy, and their structures have been determined by
single crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. The crystal structure par
ameters are: for 1, space group, P ($) over bar 1 (No. 2), a = 9.176(1
) Angstrom, b = 10.687(1) Angstrom, c = 11.771(2) Angstrom, alpha = 91
.79(1)degrees, beta = 109.97(1)degrees, gamma = 99.68(1)degrees, V = 1
064.5(2) Angstrom(3), Z = 2, R (R(w)) = 3.1 (3.0)% based on 2776 (I >
2.0 sigma(I)) observed reflections; and for 2, space group, P2(1)/c (N
o. 14), a = 8.778(1) Angstrom, b = 23.283(9) Angstrom, c = 11.278-(2)
Angstrom, beta = 101.74(1)degrees, V = 2261(1) Angstrom(3), Z = 4, R (
R(w)) = 3.1 (3.1)% based on 2919 (I > 3.0 sigma(I)) observed reflectio
ns. The central (InTe)(2) core of 1 and 2 is planar with trans orienta
tion of the TeR groups.
