Graft copolymers with core-shell morphology were synthesized by grafti
ng from polymeric azo initiators, The core synthesis and the grafting
reaction both were carried out in emulsion. Functionality and density
of the core material as well as the structure and the thickness of the
shell were varied to obtain a broad spectrum oi polymer properties. T
he core-shell morphology was strongly favoured for highly crosslinked
seed latex. The polymers were characterized by common analytical techn
iques including gel permeation chromatography: differential scanning c
alorimetry and electron microscopy. The dimensions oi the globular str
uctures were determined by a disc centrifuge photometer.
