Ozonolysis of an aqueous suspension of Np(V) hydroxide produces crysta
lline (NpO3H2O)-H-. [1]. The formation of a small amount of Np(VII) un
der analogous conditions had been noted earlier [2]. However, the desc
ribed method did not give large Np(VII) yields and enable definite con
clusions about the speciation of Np in this system to be made. Therefo
re, the goal of the present work was to investigate the products of Np
(V) hydroxide oxidation by ozone.
