Y2Sn2-xFexO7-delta pyrochlores were studied by means of X-ray diffract
ion, Sn-119 and Fe-57 Mossbauer spectroscopy. The single phase Y2Sn2-x
FexO7-delta pyrochlores up to x = 0.8 were produced by the chemical co
precipitation method. The quadrupole splittings of Sn-119 decrease lin
early with increasing iron content. The Fe-57 Mossbauer spectra for x
= 0.6 and 0.8 both are composed of a sextet and two doublets, indicati
ng that some Fe3+ ion environments in the pyrochlores are magnetically
ordered. The magnetic hyperfine splitting disappears in the sample wi
th x = 1.0, which contains a second phase.
