Effluent containing Cu-EDTA compounds has been effectively treated via
electrochemical process with coagulation. Active Fe(OH), was generate
d at the anode and worked as coagulant with the assistance of electrol
ysis to remove cupric ions chelating with EDTA. In contrast, pure chem
ical coagulant failed to remove the cupric ions. The anodic reactions
which occur on the electrode consist of Cu/Fe replacement, dissolution
of iron and EDTA decomposition. The importance of each reaction with
respect to operation variables has also been analyzed.
