Compounds with the composition R(6)Fe(13)X (R = Pr, Nd; X = In, Sn, Tl
, Ph, Cu, Ag, Au) were studied by Fe-57 Mossbauer spectroscopy. Attent
ion was focused on the influence of the easy axis of the magnetization
on the shape of the hyperfine patterns. The spectra are composed of a
t least four subpatterns, originating from the different Fe lattice si
tes. Contrary to the magnetization, a significant dependence of the hy
perfine parameters on the specific elements R and X could not be detec
ted. Predominantly, the easy axis of the magnetization was found to li
e within the basal plane; only for R = Nd and X = In, Sn, Tl, Pb is an
easy c-axis present. Since the low temperature magnetization data obt
ained for the different compounds show a wide spread, while the Fe-57
hyperfine fields remain almost constant over the whole series, some ki
nd of antiferromagnetic ordering within the Fe sublattice is anticipat
ed.
