The glass transition in the pseudo-binary metallic glass Zr67Ni10Cu23
doped with 0.5 at.% Fe-57 has been studied by Mossbauer spectroscopy.
The glass transition appears as a sudden drop in the recoil-free fract
ion and an increase in the linewidth, consistent with changes in both
the specific heat and the thermal expansion coefficient. The glass tra
nsition temperature determined from the change in the temperature depe
ndence of the hyperfine parameters is in agreement with the value obta
ined from calorimetry. The results are discussed and compared with tho
se of conventional glasses.
