Films of Fe0.79Ge0.21 were synthesized by ion beam sputtering, and wer
e annealed at temperatures from 150 to 500 degrees C. The as-prepared
materials comprised chemically disordered bcc crystallites, but short-
range and long-range D0(3) chemical order developed upon annealing. Th
e Fe-57 hyperfine magnetic field distribution can be understood approx
imately with a model of magnetic response, so the hyperfine magnetic f
ield distribution can be used to follow the changes in chemical short-
range ordering. Large local isomer shifts were observed at Fe-57 atoms
near Ge atoms.
