This paper discusses some techniques for judging the performance of ar
tefact standards. In order of increasing time scales, these are: a cro
ss-comparison design, a means of removing reference-induced correlatio
ns, detection of laboratory offsets by travelling standards and a grap
hical means of assessment in the long term.
