Abstract
The Elms fragmentation of orellanine, its tetramethyl ether, and orell ine were investigated. Fragmentation pathways, the elucidation of whic h was assisted by accurate mass measurements and metastable transition s, are proposed. A mechanism of the facile N-oxide oxygen elimination as (OH)-O-. or (OCH3)-O-. found to be a primary process is discussed.
