The authors give a survey of the state of the art of empirical researc
h on health education in school and in the classroom. To this end, the
y first describe some important peculiarities of the (health-related)
experiences and behavior of this age group and, secondly, deal with th
e question whether the school is, at all, the appropriate place for he
alth education. They then go on to discuss different possibilities of
prevention in school with reference to evaluation criteria based on th
e results actually achieved. Finally, consequences are drawn for the d
evelopment of further measures and, especially, for concrete teacher a
ction.
