Despite the existence of a great number of institutions which may be c
ontacted by children and adolescents when they are faced with problems
, there are often informatory deficiencies and anxieties to contact in
stitutions which contribute to the fact that many afflicted children a
nd adolescents do not get sufficient support. The present study conduc
ted with 1225 children and adolescents aged 10 to 18 documents deficit
s and fears by asking about the knowledge about professional support s
ystems and about reasons to accept or to reject professional support.
Based on the results of this study an intervention program is develope
d which is aimed at raising the knowledge about support systems and at
reducing fears and worries to rise the acceptance of existing support
systems.
